Verse of the day for July 30, 2010

"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:14-16)

The world we live in today is a very dark place, you don't have to go very far to hear about negative things going on or seeing how people live their lives in misery, sadness, depression, etc.

I like the picture of the lighthouse that lights the seashore in a stormy night so ships won't crash
The light from the lighthouse also gives the ship a point of reference helping them navigate to their intended destination.
We are the same way, we are the light that shines in this world of darkness, we are the tools that God uses to shine His love on others.
We are the light which God uses to direct people to Him.
One thing that we must remember and that is very easy to fall into, is becoming like the rest of the world, it is easy to be influenced by the negativity and darkness from the world.

Did you know that one of the things that discourages people the most from going to church is Christians themselves?
Yes, believe it or not, it is true!
If you go out and ask people why they don't go to church, they will tell you they can find better appreciation or attitudes from the people of the world, they don't notice a different from the world or the church. I believe that as true believers, we must make a difference, we must not be conformed to the world and be like the world and be true lights and shine the love of Christ to the those who really need it.

Make it a point today to shine your light before men, and be a light for Christ.

God Bless you,

Luis Guerrero

Verse of the day for July 28, 2010

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

How many times have you read this verse before? I have several, I even have it memorized and it is one of those verses that jump out whenever I read it.

This is a good reminder though of what we must believe as followers of Christ:

The Bible is God-breathed: Many people claim that the Bible is just another book, that it was man-made, but we know the truth, that the Bible is the living Word of God, that He spoke to the several authors and that everything in the Bible is there for a reason.

is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness: The Bible is the perfect tool for people to learn how to live a righteous life, all the rules are set, all the examples are in it, yet we miss the main purpose when we don't study it. Think of the Word of God as the instruction manual for life that the Maker and Creator of everything made specifically for those who follow Him.

so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work: I am all for education, it is great and resourceful, but there is no better education than the Word of God, the teaching direct from the source. There are thousands, maybe even millions of different Bible commentaries, written by brilliant and inspired men, but even the best commentary cannot compare to what will be gained from reading and studying the Bible.

Verse of the day for June 30, 2010

But from there you will seek the LORD your God, and you will find [Him] if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul.
(Deuteronomy 4:29)

God gives comfort and peace to those who seek Him.
Only He can give it to us, not any form of addiction or personal idol.
So many people go out day by day living in their own comforts, seeking it in the least of places and miss the picture of God, who is the only one who brings it to us.
We must seek and pray and ask God.
Prayer is the upmost important thing we must do.
How can you expect to be comforted by God if you don't seek Him, if you don't spend time with Him? If your Bible just sits on a table or a shelf to collect dust.
I challe
nge you, pray, spend time with God, and then He will give you the desires of your heart, not the other way around.

Verse of the day June 29, 2010

"The days are coming," declares the Sovereign LORD, "when I will send a famine through the land--not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the LORD. (Amos 8:11) Israel had rejected the words of the Lord from Amos and so they would go into exile where there would be no word from the Lord at all. Here in America the Word is readily available abundantly. We many different version from which to read from. We also have electronic versio with commentaries. Yet we don't seem to have the time to read it. If we do read it we dont have the time to really dig into instead we let others interpret it for us. In John 14:26 we are told,"...the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and will cause you to remember everything I said to you. It make take a famine of Gods Word in order for us to realize the importance of His Word. Examine yourself and ask yourself do I hunger and thirst for the Word of God? Ask God to place a burning desire in your heart for His Word. May the Lord bless you, Pastor Dwayne

JAM FEST 2010

Just wanted to extend the invitation to everyone to our outreach event we are having at my church next weekend. It is a carwash/ fun day/ jam (music) day/ etc. The main goal is that it is an outreach event to the community of Las Cruces, so one of the reasons why I am posting this is because we need prayer warriors!

Prayer is such a powerful tool, and we need a lot of it. Pray for the people that might show up out of curiousity or just to use the free services we will have that day (carwash, free food and games to keep kids distracted). All the people who attend will be given a packet with goodies, a Bible and some sort of reminder of the church service times and such.

Everyone is invited to come!

Verse of the day Monday 6/14/10

Proverbs 14:3 KJV
3 In the mouth of the foolish[ is] a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.

Proverbs 14:3 ESV
3 By the mouth of fools comes a rod for his back, but the lips of the wise will preserve them.

Proverbs 14 speaks of the actions and the words of the foolish in contrast with that of the wise.
It is apparrent that the foolish is own worst enemy.
His boastful words come back to reek havoc and upon his life.
Words are very powerful. They can restore and build up or than offend and destroy.
We must be very careful with the words we speak.

Before we speak we should ask ourselves several questions:
1) Is what I'm about to say truthful?
2) Do these words need to be said: Do they encourage and edify?
3) Are they going to be spoken with love or with arrogant pride?
There many questions we must ask ourselves before we speak.
Be an encouragement to others because we all need encouragement daily.
We are in spiritual battle and as Christians we are on the same team but many times we don't act that way.
We continuously judge others because of pride and it keeps us from looking at our short comings.
We are not yet perfect but we should be striving for the perfection found in Christ Jesus.
We need to seek God daily for the empowering of the Holy Spirit for power, wisdom directing and understanding.
Be slow to speak and quick to listen.
May the Lord bless you,
Pastor Dwayne
