Verse of the day for July 30, 2010

"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:14-16)

The world we live in today is a very dark place, you don't have to go very far to hear about negative things going on or seeing how people live their lives in misery, sadness, depression, etc.

I like the picture of the lighthouse that lights the seashore in a stormy night so ships won't crash
The light from the lighthouse also gives the ship a point of reference helping them navigate to their intended destination.
We are the same way, we are the light that shines in this world of darkness, we are the tools that God uses to shine His love on others.
We are the light which God uses to direct people to Him.
One thing that we must remember and that is very easy to fall into, is becoming like the rest of the world, it is easy to be influenced by the negativity and darkness from the world.

Did you know that one of the things that discourages people the most from going to church is Christians themselves?
Yes, believe it or not, it is true!
If you go out and ask people why they don't go to church, they will tell you they can find better appreciation or attitudes from the people of the world, they don't notice a different from the world or the church. I believe that as true believers, we must make a difference, we must not be conformed to the world and be like the world and be true lights and shine the love of Christ to the those who really need it.

Make it a point today to shine your light before men, and be a light for Christ.

God Bless you,

Luis Guerrero

Verse of the day for July 28, 2010

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

How many times have you read this verse before? I have several, I even have it memorized and it is one of those verses that jump out whenever I read it.

This is a good reminder though of what we must believe as followers of Christ:

The Bible is God-breathed: Many people claim that the Bible is just another book, that it was man-made, but we know the truth, that the Bible is the living Word of God, that He spoke to the several authors and that everything in the Bible is there for a reason.

is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness: The Bible is the perfect tool for people to learn how to live a righteous life, all the rules are set, all the examples are in it, yet we miss the main purpose when we don't study it. Think of the Word of God as the instruction manual for life that the Maker and Creator of everything made specifically for those who follow Him.

so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work: I am all for education, it is great and resourceful, but there is no better education than the Word of God, the teaching direct from the source. There are thousands, maybe even millions of different Bible commentaries, written by brilliant and inspired men, but even the best commentary cannot compare to what will be gained from reading and studying the Bible.

Verse of the day for June 30, 2010

But from there you will seek the LORD your God, and you will find [Him] if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul.
(Deuteronomy 4:29)

God gives comfort and peace to those who seek Him.
Only He can give it to us, not any form of addiction or personal idol.
So many people go out day by day living in their own comforts, seeking it in the least of places and miss the picture of God, who is the only one who brings it to us.
We must seek and pray and ask God.
Prayer is the upmost important thing we must do.
How can you expect to be comforted by God if you don't seek Him, if you don't spend time with Him? If your Bible just sits on a table or a shelf to collect dust.
I challe
nge you, pray, spend time with God, and then He will give you the desires of your heart, not the other way around.

Verse of the day June 29, 2010

"The days are coming," declares the Sovereign LORD, "when I will send a famine through the land--not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the LORD. (Amos 8:11) Israel had rejected the words of the Lord from Amos and so they would go into exile where there would be no word from the Lord at all. Here in America the Word is readily available abundantly. We many different version from which to read from. We also have electronic versio with commentaries. Yet we don't seem to have the time to read it. If we do read it we dont have the time to really dig into instead we let others interpret it for us. In John 14:26 we are told,"...the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and will cause you to remember everything I said to you. It make take a famine of Gods Word in order for us to realize the importance of His Word. Examine yourself and ask yourself do I hunger and thirst for the Word of God? Ask God to place a burning desire in your heart for His Word. May the Lord bless you, Pastor Dwayne

JAM FEST 2010

Just wanted to extend the invitation to everyone to our outreach event we are having at my church next weekend. It is a carwash/ fun day/ jam (music) day/ etc. The main goal is that it is an outreach event to the community of Las Cruces, so one of the reasons why I am posting this is because we need prayer warriors!

Prayer is such a powerful tool, and we need a lot of it. Pray for the people that might show up out of curiousity or just to use the free services we will have that day (carwash, free food and games to keep kids distracted). All the people who attend will be given a packet with goodies, a Bible and some sort of reminder of the church service times and such.

Everyone is invited to come!
Saturday, June 26, 2010
9:00 am- 3:30pm

Hope to see you there!

Verse of the day Monday 6/14/10

Proverbs 14:3 KJV
3 In the mouth of the foolish[ is] a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.

Proverbs 14:3 ESV
3 By the mouth of fools comes a rod for his back, but the lips of the wise will preserve them.

Proverbs 14 speaks of the actions and the words of the foolish in contrast with that of the wise.
It is apparrent that the foolish is own worst enemy.
His boastful words come back to reek havoc and upon his life.
Words are very powerful. They can restore and build up or than offend and destroy.
We must be very careful with the words we speak.

Before we speak we should ask ourselves several questions:
1) Is what I'm about to say truthful?
2) Do these words need to be said: Do they encourage and edify?
3) Are they going to be spoken with love or with arrogant pride?
There many questions we must ask ourselves before we speak.
Be an encouragement to others because we all need encouragement daily.
We are in spiritual battle and as Christians we are on the same team but many times we don't act that way.
We continuously judge others because of pride and it keeps us from looking at our short comings.
We are not yet perfect but we should be striving for the perfection found in Christ Jesus.
We need to seek God daily for the empowering of the Holy Spirit for power, wisdom directing and understanding.
Be slow to speak and quick to listen.
May the Lord bless you,
Pastor Dwayne

Verse of the day for June 3, 2010

To the Lord your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, the earth and everything in it.
(Deuteronomy 10:14)

God is greater than all things.
He is the Creator, therefore He is greater. The creation can never be greater than the creator.
Many today will argue this statement, or any statement made, regarding creation, but we must remember, God made it all and He is in charge of it all.

Verse of the day for June 2, 2010

“So Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and He will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for Him.”
(Hebrews 9:28)

Christ died for ALL our sins. It is that simple.
Many think that He died for some sins, or not fully for all our sins, but we must remember that He died for past, present and future sins.
And the promise is that He will return for a second time and vanish ALL sin, like a conquering King.
How we long for that day to finally come!

Your brother in Christ Jesus,
Pastor Dwayne

Verse of the day for May, 26 2010

My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.
(James 1:19-20)
God directs us in our daily lives on how we need to interact with others.
He created us, so He knows we have the tendency to speak before we think or listen.
Disagreements and misunderstandings have been created because we want to be heard, but we don't want to listen to others.
This leads to anger, which benefits no one.
Anger does not glorify God nor does it help us live the way God wants us to.
We are a light in dark world.
We are suppose to be the reflection of Jesus Christ.
How does anger fit into that picture?
I challenge you today to adhere to today's scripture: Think before you speak--"Is what I'm about say, necessary, does it edify, is it going to be said with love?"
Listen before you speak--If you speak without listening, you are basically saying, "What I have to say is more important then what you have to say. Or what you have to say is not important."
Apply today's scripture to your life and experience the righteous life that God wants for you.

Your brother in Christ Jesus,
Pastor Dwayne

Verse of the day for May 18,2010

For the director of music. Of David the servant of the Lord. He sang to the Lord the words of this song when the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. He said: I love you, O Lord, my strength.
The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I call to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies.
Psalm 18:1-3

We must remember to begin out day by expressing our love for God.
He is my strength, my rock and deliverer.
We can do nothing in our own strength.
We must begin and end out day on solid ground, the rock, our salvation.
The Lord is our Heavenly Father.
He wants us to call upon Him to meet our needs. No matter how bright or black things may look, we must remember that we need to spend time with our Lord.
Remember salvation is what God used to bring us back into a relationship with Him.
So, begin your day with Him, because He paid the highest price possible so we could spend time with Him.

Have a Blessed day,

Verse of the day for May 14, 2010

Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.
John 16:24

In today's modern society, the world has become too accustomed to want everything done there way. People want to fit God into their schedule, do whatever they want Him to do, and just be there in the back burner for whenever they need help.

One of the things that even Christians fail is to ask in HIS name. As we go through our daily lives, we must remember that we are not here alone, that the battles we fight, God has our back.

This verse does not say "Hey! I just need to ask God and I will get 1,000,000 bucks!". It specifies that we must ask what His will is in our lives, that we maybe walking according to God's will, not (insert your name)'s will. In all things, seek God first.

Verse of the day for May 11, 2010

I became a servant of this Gospel by the gift of God's grace given me through the working of His power.
Ephesians 3:7

The world is full of people who think that it is all about what they can offer to God, what they think makes them so great that they are like a needle in a haystack, but the whole point of being a servant of God is remaining humble, using the gifts and talents that God has given to you to share His Word to the lost and give Him the glory.
Another thing is that it is not what you can do for God, but what God can do through you! That is the best part of being a servant, if we remain available and open, God can use us in many unimaginable ways.

VERSE OF THE DAY April 29, 2010

The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord thunders over the mighty waters.
The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is majestic.
The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars; the Lord breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon.
(Psalm 21:3-5)

The voice of the Lord is POWERFUL. With just opening His mouth, creation happened, and with the opening of His mouth, He will defeat Satan. Now that is what I call power!

So many people live every day mocking God, thinking they know better than Him, when they ignore that the same God who created it all, is in control of all.

Verse of the day for April 28, 2010

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
(Colossians 3:23-24)

The order is Christ first, other second, ourselves last.

Focusing on serving the Lord can make a big difference in your ministry. For one thing, you will be motivated to do your work and not look for excuses. If you serve only to earn a salary or get recognition, you will never do your best as long as you think you're underpaid or unrecognized.
The only motivation that will take you through the storms and keeps on the job is, "I'm serving Jesus Christ." Paul called himself "the bondslave of Jesus Christ, and slaves didn't have the priviledge of saying no.

Verse of the day for April 22, 2010

Humility and the fear of the Lord bring wealth and honor and life.
(Proverbs 22:4)

Many people today try to achieve the most they can out of life because they feel that is their sole purpose in life. As a Christian, remember that reaching the highest step in the corporate ladder or ever becoming the most famous and successful person is not what we are here for, we are here to make God's word known and live a life for Him.

Humility is the key that the high powers people of the world don't understand. They pride in their houses, their cars, their success instead of giving it to God. Whether you have much or don't have much, God gave you what you have, and He gave it to you to bring glory to His Kingdom.

Verse of the day April 19th, 2010

For Christ's love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.
(2 Corinthians 5:14-15)

There are many out there who believe in different doctrines and say that "Christ died for some" and that His death on the cross was not for everyone. If that was the case then, why go out and evangelize? Why invite unbelievers to church? What would be the point of preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ of only a few are mean to hear it?

Christ died for ALL. I encourage you to read your Bible and study this for yourself, you will find several parts in Scripture where it says this specific thing. Do not be deceived by the doctrines that are out there that take the death of Christ and turn it into an "elect group". That is the beauty of God sending His son to die for ALL who believe in Him, not some chosen few. Jesus died for the broken, the thief, the prostitute, the murderer, for ALL who have commited sin, which would be ALL people.

Yes, there will be many who will reject Christ, but that doesn't mean that they are not chosen by God for Salvation, but we are to love them and show then the love of Christ daily, through our actions and our lifestyle. Remember, it is not up to us to win souls for the Kingdom of God, we are the messengers and proclaimers of His Gospel.

Verse of the day for April 16, 2010

At that time I said to you, "You are too heavy a burden for me to carry alone. The Lord your God has increased your numbers so that today you are as many as the stars in the sky.
May the Lord, the God of your fathers, increase you a thousand times and bless you as he has promised!
But how can I bear your problems and your burdens and your disputes all by myself?
Choose some wise, understanding and respected men from each of your tribes, and I will set them over you."
You answered me, "What you propose to do is good."
So I took the leading men of your tribes, wise and respected men, and appointed them to have authority over you--as commanders of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties and of tens and as tribal officials.
And I charged your judges at that time: Hear the disputes between your brothers and judge fairly, whether the case is between brother Israelites or between one of them and an alien.
Do not show partiality in judging; hear both small and great alike. Do not be afraid of any man, for judgment belongs to God. Bring me any case too hard for you, and I will hear it.
And at that time I told you everything you were to do.
(Deutoronomy 1:9-18)

As Christians we need to strive for spiritual maturity for many reasons.
First, God has commanded us to do so.
Secondly, as God blesses the body of Christ and adds to its numbers so does the demands upon the leadership increase greatly.
There is a great need for spiritual leaders and servants in the church, but there are few to be found in this world of "What's in it for me attitude."
We need to disciple Christians, but Christians must also desire and seek to be discipled.
As we allow God to work in us, He is able to work through us to meet the needs of many.

Verse of the day April 15, 2010

Since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.
(2 Corinthians 7:1)

The world is full of things that hinder our walk. Movies, music, magazines, so many things that can cause us to stumble. God call us to be holy, to be like His Son. As Christians, we make excuses for our sinfulness and say "well, I'm only human". While this is true, we are to remember that we are representing Jesus in everything that we do, we are called to be like His Son.

If you fall and stumble, don't kick yourself for it, just remember, we are to live righteously.

Verse of the day for April 13, 2010

I would like to personally apologize for not being consistent on the verse of the day. Luis and I work very hard to put this together, but we have both been very busy lately. From now on, the verse of the day will not be daily, probably around 3-4 times a week.

Today's verse comes from Proverbs 13:13 (notice the day and the verse have a lot in common)

He who despises the Word will be destroyed, but he who fears the commandment will be rewarded.

Stay strong in the Word of God, sometimes it may be hard to follow and we might want to do things OUR WAY, but if doing things GOD'S WAY is always more rewarding. He knows the beggining and the end and knows which path is the best for us.

Verse of the day for April 2nd, 2010

Today's verse is the whole Psalm 1 as it is a commandment in the life of all believers:

Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.
But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.
He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.
Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

Tonight, take some time to celebrate the death to our sins as Jesus was laid as a perfect sacrifice for us.

Verse of the Day for March 4th, 2010

The verse for today comes from 2 different passages in Acts 4. The first one is Acts 4:23-24

On their release, Peter and John went back to their own people and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said to them. When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God. "Sovereign Lord," they said, "you made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and everything in them.

The second reference comes from verse 29:

Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness.

With these words I encourage you to:

Speak the Gospel Boldly.
Seek God corporately
and pray for the needs of the church.

Verse of the day for Feb 26, 2010

Today's verse comes from Ephesians 5:15-18

Be very careful, then, how you live-not as unwise but as wise,
making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.
Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is.
Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.

Have a very blessed weekend

Verse of the Day for Feb 22nd, 2010

Hello everyone,
I hope you had a great weekend and are ready for a brand new week. I pray that as you read this blog you will be blessed and grow in the Lord. Remember, it is important to read your Bible daily and continue to seek for the Lord's guidance. If we don't spend time with God, how can we expect Him to listen to our prayers and grow?

Today's verse of the day comes from Psalm 20:4-9

May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed.
We will shout for joy when you are victorious and will lift up our banners in the name of our God. May the Lord grant all your requests.
Now I know that the Lord saves his anointed; he answers him from his holy heaven with the saving power of his right hand.
Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm.
O Lord, save the king! Answer us when we call!

I also wanted to remind you to check out our website (www.calvarychapel-3crosses.com) if you want to find out more information about our church or find out about the most recent events.

Verse of the day for Feb 16th, 2010

Today's Bible Verse of the Day comes from 1 John 4:7-12

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.
This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and His love is made complete in us.

I pray that this encourages your daily walk with the Lord.
